When they bloom, revealing a beautiful purple colour, it’s a sign to most primary and secondary school scholars that the final examination season has begun.
But this time around, it is Ngoma NeHosho, Jacaranda Festival organisers, who will be tested if they have blossomed enough to host a festival of the magnitude they have set, romping in the royalty of Southern African music.
Like ‘O’ Level scholars, it has taken them four years of planning to finally stage the one day event at Hellenic Sports Club tomorrow. Their line-up is strong with a good mixture in age groups, genres and race.
Led by world famous legends, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi and Yvonne Chakachaka, Jacaranda Festival will also host South Africa’s Micasa, talented drummer Blessing Chimhanga, Evicted, Jesa, Berita Khumalo, Norman Masamba, Gemma Griffins, and Mbeu among many other artists.
Widely travelled afro-fusion group Mokoomba who are taking a break from their international tour, will also grace the festival in a once off performance before proceeding to Canada and the UK.
All performing artists have confirmed their participation, with Micasa sending one of their group members to assure local media and fans that they are ready to share their colourful music.
“I will be speaking for my fellow band members when I say we are happy to be part of the festival,” said Micasa trumper Mo-T.
He went on to preach unity in music despite borders that separate South Africa and Zimbabwe.
