Upcoming and adorned writer, Herbert Mutanda today uncloaked his second book entitled Gomo reBudiriro at the Media Lab, University of Zimbabwe.
The book is Herbert Mutanda’s second publication after he had his first publication “Wakapindwa nei?” and it is about unity, peace, and safeguarding the heritage.
Speaking to this writer, he said he was happy to have his book launch today and that the book is rich in Shona and is a must-have copy as it carries important messages.
“I am thrilled to launch my second novel. I know that I did my best to come up with a book that carries strong messages about safeguarding our heritage from the oppressors who may want our heritage. I can confirm that some of my mentors graced the occasion including Memory Chirere, Aaron Chiundura Moyo, Ignatius Mabasa, Elias Machemedze, and Aleck Kaposa among other dignitaries,” said Herbert, who is in his final year at the University of Zimbabwe
Published by MC Publishers, the book Gomo reBudiriro has a strong message to black people so that they safeguard and defend their sovereignty from oppressors who may want to re-colonise their countries.
“The colonial oppressors are always vying to take fertile lands and rich minerals from African countries and the book preaches unity and working together for the development of African countries,” said Herbert.
According to the author, the book teaches the people of Zimbabwe about perseverance, hope, and faith, insisting that whatever people achieve, it came through these attributes.
Born 24 years ago in Rusape, Herbert started writing in 2012 whilst in Grade 6 and he never looked back. In an interview, Herbert remembered how his ZIMSEC composition Gore rakaita nzara mudunhu medu in 2013, was published in Kwayedza and that was the beginning of his writing journey.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Pardon Mugari, the owner of Hilbright Colleges, called on the business community and writers to come and support Herbert on his journey as a writer. Government officials, MP Tafadzwa Mugwadi, Dr Guramatunhu, Prof Mangena, and Bishop Dr. Nyabanga were among other dignitaries.
In the book , the Chivavarira Kingdom which is under King Matibiri, who is ruling the Chivavarira people, was colonised by the white oppressors but the black people fought for their land and there was bloodshed until they took back the land. The whites left the Kingdom in disgrace but they worked with a black spy named Rwizi who wanted to betray his people so that the whites recolonise the area. However. the spirit medium intervened and gave the King some wise advice.
An Animal Science degree student, Herbert said the book was a must-have copy and he said it is being sold at affordable prices. The writer has a Shona novel which he co-authored that is also ready to be released.
