Human Induced Climate Change Calls for Everyone’s Attention

By Tendai Guvamombe

The science is sobering; the global temperature in 2012 was among the hottest since records began in 1880. Make no mistake: without concerted action, the very future of our planet is in peril,” said the Managing Director, International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde said in 2012.

This unfortunate situation among others now compels world leaders to work around the clock in the quest to mitigate climate change.

It is scientifically proven that rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are a major cause of global warming.

Humankind has only a small time window in which to meet the challenge of climate change and take steps to limit the global rise in temperature to a maximum of 2°C.

For this to be successful, raising awareness campaigns to the local people is the way to go.

Maxwell Kanotonga a global climate campaigner moved the motion to support International Day of Action on Climate Change to different communities in the country.

While others are in Poland, attending Global Summit on Climate Change, Kanotonga extended his share of knowledge to Machipisa communities in Highfield over the weekend.

“World leaders and the international community as a whole moved rapidly as possible to a much stronger international agreement that is both equitable and effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

His quest to push for environmental education extended in public education specialisation in Africa on climate change.

“People should be aware of climate change and the dangers that lie ahead; this phenomenon requires everyone’s attention environmental agencies, policy makers, agriculturists and different sectors to come on board.”

Effects of human induced climate change have already poised great challenges in some parts of the globe.

“Mega droughts in USA, incessant rains which affects Islands societies are some of the genuine effects brought by climate change.”

Paris Agreement on Climate Change depicted the African world to be affected most hence the need to adopt Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
