Private and Public Partnership is the way local councils should take to improve their communities, the Minister of State and Devolution for Matabeleland North Richard Moyo has said while officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for South Mining Empumalanga Library.

The library is a Private and Public Partnership project between South Mining Private Limited and Hwange Local Board.

The library is set to improve children’s livelihoods and the community of  Hwange at large by helping with modern books and ensuring the availability of literature.

Minister Moyo said the efforts are a compliment to the ongoing government drive in improving the education sector.

“It is our government’s main agenda to make sure that all the children are provided with quality education. We truly appreciate such private and public partnership between private investors and local authorities in improving the communities they are operating in,” said Moyo.

Public-Private partnerships emphasize the involvement of private finance in public infrastructure projects in a more systematic way.

South Mining Private Limited is a coal processing company, processing coal into different coal products. Coke, produced by heating coal is mainly used in the production of steel.

South Mining Private Limited committed to constructing the community library as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and Private-Public Partnership.

Appreciating the gesture by the two entities, South Mining and Hwange Local Board, Minister Moyo encouraged other communities to take a leaf from such developments.

“I urge all the companies in Hwange and Matabeleland North Province to emulate what South Mining and Hwange Local Board have done.”
