Maputo, Mozambique — ideialab has been selected as one of five standout ecosystem builders for the next phase of Village Capital’s Empowering Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Africa (ESEA) program. With support from Norad – the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, ideialab will receive up to USD 260K (approx. MZN 16M) to empower climate-focused startups in Mozambique.
ideialab joins Catalyst Fund (Kenya), Ennovate Ventures (Tanzania), Emerge Livelihoods (Malawi), and Reach for Change (Ghana) in this initiative. Together, they will build a regional pipeline of 500 startups, provide pre-acceleration workshops for 100, and accelerate 30 startups per country across two cohorts.
This program aims to strengthen investment readiness and provide direct capital to impactful climate startups in Mozambique, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Tanzania.
Building on the success of the 2024 ESEA program, which supported 14 ecosystem builders, ideialab has reimagined its 2025 strategy through its involvement in the initiative.
“This journey has been one of discovery and learning,” shared Tatiana Pereira, Co-Founder and Executive Catalyst at ideiaLab. “We’ve integrated ESEA insights into our initiative designs, ensuring even more tailored support for climate-focused entrepreneurs.”
The 2025 program will focus on empowering five key organizations as they run tailored programs and distribute pass-through funding to climate startups. Upon completion, four startups per country will receive USD 25K each in grant funding.
Early-stage startups, whether currently operating in Mozambique or planning to expand there, with solutions focused on Climate Adaptation, Renewable Energy, Blue Economy, and Food Security are invited to submit their applications here by April 30, 2025.
