Leadership skills were described as a necessity in young people’s circles as they were believed to be a powerful tool that would help them in decision-making processes, undertake the responsibility, and address challenges in their lives at both individual and professional levels.

A young girl’s movement Shamwari YeMwanasikana through their leadership pillar recently conducted a prefects training and induction for young boys and girls at Fungisai Primary School in Chitungwiza, a move which has seen many learners benefiting from teachings related to leadership, grooming, communication, and responsibilities.

Speaking to Spiked Online Media, Shamwari YeMwanasikana Leadership and Flagships Coordinator, Esnara Kativhu said that the exercise was of paramount importance as it helped to mould competent stewards of today and the future.

“As Shamwari Yemwanasikana, one of our four strategic pillars is Leadership. Our Leadership Pillar aims to empower girls and boys by nurturing them to take up leadership and meaningfully participate in civic spaces, by equipping them with soft skills and knowledge that capacitate them to lead in all shares of life.

“Young people are better positioned to address the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives as these are their lived experiences, therefore it is important for them to occupy leadership spaces as they come with decision-making power to change and challenge difficulties they face. They are the custodians of today and stewards of tomorrow. Also being in leadership spaces teaches young people to be responsible and contribute to their self-actualization at a personal and professional level,” said Kativhu.

She further vowed for strong working relations with all stakeholders towards creating platforms that nurture patriotic young people.

“We continue to provide such services to students, teachers, churches, and corporates, with the aim to provide a platform where young girls and boys can lead, “she said.

The movement’s Leadership Pillar runs with the tagline,’ Let her lead, let him lead you”.
