Joint Heroes Commemorations held in Sanyati and Mhondoro Ngezi Districts

The people of Sanyati and Mhondoro Ngezi districts came together to commemorate their heroes in a moving joint ceremony held on Monday, 12 August 2024. The event, which took place at Sanyati District Heroes Acre, was attended by local leaders, community members, and families of the fallen heroes.
The Guest of Honour was the District Development Coordinator for Mhondoro Ngezi, Mrs. Muzenda, who read the President’s Heroes Day speech.
In the speech, President Emmerson emphasized the importance of honouring the nation’s heroes, saying, “We must remember and honor those who fought for our freedom and independence. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
Attendees reflected on the significance of the commemorations.
“This event reminds us of the importance of unity and patriotism,” said Gogo Masarira, a resident.
“We must continue to honor our heroes and preserve our history,” she added.
The ceremony honoured heroes from both districts, including those who fought for independence, freedom, and development.
“We remember our sons and daughters who paid the ultimate price for our nation’s freedom,” said Mr. Bonde a war veteran.
At the Heroes Acre were laid to rest men and women who fought bravely during the liberation struggle and made the ultimate sacrifice for Zimbabwe’s independence.
The event featured cultural performances, including traditional dances and music, which added to the festive atmosphere.
 “These commemorations remind us of the sacrifices made by our heroes. We must continue to tell their stories,” Hon Andrew Nkani member of Parliament for Chakari, said.
“I’m proud to see our community come together to honor our heroes. It’s a testament to our unity and strength,” he said.
“We must never forget our heroes and their contributions to our nation’s history,” said Zimbabwe Miners Federation Mashonaland West Province Chairperson, Timothy Chizuzu said.
The joint heroes commemorations in Sanyati and Mhondoro Ngezi districts were a resounding success. It reinforced the significance of honouring those who have made a difference in our lives and our nation’s history.
