An Afrojazz artist known for his social commentary music will be holding an anti-drugs concert this Saturday in the capital.
Speaking ahead of the gig to be held at Players Bar and Restaurant, Maizon Tazvitya of Ancient Tribes said the show is aimed at raising awareness of the drug abuse scourge and its impact on society’s well-being.
“At this concert, we would like to use the opportunity to speak out against the pressing drugs and substance abuse issue, particularly on its effects that include gender-based violence. This we will do through music. As a artiste, I know the influence we have in society, and that will help in our messages getting heard better,” quipped Tazvitya.
The Dzivarasekwa-born musician says this is a complement to the government’s efforts in eradicating drug abuse in our society.
“As musicians, we are taking our part in bolstering the government’s tireless efforts in combating drugs and substance abuse. We are going to invite some students from tertiary institutions like UZ and MSU among other tertiary institutions so that they can be able to participate in this event since students are among the most affected.”
He will be ably supported by another Afrojazz artiste, Samson Gohwa, popularly known as Drogba.
“For this show, I will be performing together with Drogba known for his poignant songs around gender-based violence. By collaborating with him on this show, we will be able to intertwine the fight against substance abuse with the imperative struggle against gender-based violence, as we aspire to spark a profound dialogue that champions inclusive, empathy, and unwavering support for all members of society,” he added.
The former Chipawo mentee also revealed that the show will see him playing his new offering, ‘Ngaichipere’.
“Revellers are in for a treat as I will also play my new song ‘Ngaichipere’, a deeply evocative composition that centers on the theme of forgiveness and reconciliation. Through the soul-stirring melodies and touching lyrics of “Ngaichipere.
“I aim to impart a poignant message of healing and understanding, urging individuals who have experienced misunderstandings to embrace the power of forgiveness and be compassionate towards each other,” said the Majurumbwe hitmaker.
Interestingly, the two artistes have participated in the Chibuku Road to Fame competition where their groups were runners-up before both pursued solo careers. The show promises to be an epic one judging by the talent that the two acts possess.
