Harare – Zimbabwe’s International Soccer player, Marvelous Nakamba has put his weight behind grassroots sports development in the country.
The former Aston Villa player donated 20 soccer balls to Zvimba North Constituency legislator, Hon Marian Chombo when he paid a courtesy call at her office.
Nakamba, who was in the country for a holiday said it is important to ensure that talented youngsters from disadvantaged rural backgrounds get all the support they need in nurturing their talent.
Donating the soccer balls, Nakamba said he hopes the Marian Chombo Sports Tourney will help in producing talented soccer players for the country and assist in sports development in the country.
“We are hoping that through this tournament, talented footballers will be produced for the country and hope that the Honorable Minister will continue offering opportunities in creating platforms for talented young people,” he said.
Hon Chombo who is also Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister hailed Nakamba’s gesture and his love for grassroots sport development
“I am grateful for the support towards our Constituency Sports Tournament from Nakamba who is also a role model to many upcoming soccer players. I believe this is just the beginning of many things to come towards supporting the sports development of young people. This will also help in eradicating the drug abuse menace as these youngsters will be occupied through sporting activities,” she said.
Nakamba also pledged to market the country as the best tourist destination and encourage investment in various economic sectors.
