Mashonaland West among best performing provinces as Minister Chombo bags gong

Harare – Mashonaland West Province was among the best-performing provinces after Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon Marian Chombo was awarded the second best performing Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution during the 2023 performance evaluation results and signing of performance contracts event held at State House on Friday.
President Mnangagwa presided over the event where Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, announced the evaluation results for the fiscal year 2023 performance contracts.
Hon Chombo was handed over the award by President Mnangagwa at the glittering event for the best performing Minister of State where several senior government officials were also recognized in different categories.
Minister Chombo who is a former local government deputy minister, was appointed Mashonaland West Province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution by President Emerson Mnangagwa in September 2023 after she was overwhelmingly voted into parliament for her second term for Zvimba North Constituency in the country’s 2023 plebiscite.
A hands-on Minister, Hon Chombo is superintendenting over various developmental projects in various economic sectors in the province.
Various people have congratulated Chombo on the recognition.

Your tireless efforts to promote development, empower the youth, and enhance the lives of the people in your province are truly exemplary following the President’s Vision 2030, ” said Tapiwa Masenda, Mashonaland West Province ZANU PF Youth Chairperson in his congratulatory message.
Chombo’s predecessor, Mashonaland West Province ZANU PF Chairman, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, who is also the Hurungwe Rural District Council Chairman said, “Well done Mash Best. We got 2nd place for the 2023 Minister of State best performance. It’s you who made it great and let us continue to work in unity to accelerate economic development in our province,” she said.
Farmers, miners journalists, and others also congratulated Minister Chombo.
In the best performing minister of state category, Hon Minister Owen Ncube took the best position whilst the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Anxious Masuka, got the top position for the second time running in the best performing cabinet minister.
Various people in Mashonaland West Province have described Minister Chombo’s grassroots hands-on approach as a game changer that allows the central government to be in touch with the needs of the people at the grassroots level.
“This is not a mean recognition but speaks volumes of who we are as Mash Best and what we stand for. We are a team in this football game and l happen to be the striker. My name was called out as the second best but behind this goal scorer are the other 10 team members who passed the ball to me. The unity that prevails amongst our different constituencies created this spirit of success. It’s a pleasure flying with the best. The war veterans, politicians, farmers, traditional leadership, civil servants, academia, and all our Mash West partners made this possible,” Minister Chombo said.
Meanwhile, the Mhondoro-Ngezi Rural District Council in Mashonaland West Province walked away with the best performing rural district council CEO top award as well as the Council Chairman top award making three awards for Mashonaland West Province which is known as Mash Best.
