People with albinism in Chipinge and surrounding areas last Saturday got a shot in the arm after they received life-saving relief from two entities that are sensitive to their plight.

The two organizations, NetOne and Hope for the Future Foundation, provided critical products in the form of sunscreen lotions and lip balms to cater to these people’s daily health demands.

In addition, female beneficiaries also received sanitary pads, thereby boosting their sexual, as well as reproductive health needs.
The essential provisions, it is understood, go a long way in cultivating self-esteem, boosting confidence, and reducing possible body infection among recipients.

The two ‘strategic’ partners joined hands on the backdrop of giving back to the communities they operate in, extending a big heart and sensitive ear to usually marginalized people.

The materials that they provided are a critical part of the cardinal needs of this section of the community which ordinarily are out of reach due to cost and access difficulty.

The health component of their lives is being catered for at an opportune time.

Besides material resources, NetOne has gone a step further by empowering communities with the provision of health information on albinism, which can be accessed by all citizens.

The information is meant to dispel myths and stereotypes associated with albinism.

Moreso, that strategic partnership is designed in a way that promotes the rights of this section of society. Both entities concurred that their intervention sends socially correct messages in upholding fair treatment and equal access to opportunities.

Such a status quo improves productivity in all facets of socio-economic national progress.

Development experts argue that uplifting the lives of people with albinism streamlines a holistic development approach for society at large.

The move undertaken on Saturday was described by NetOne group chief executive officer, Raphael Mushanawani as entrenching community building.

“NetOne is committed to making a real difference in the lives of individuals living with albinism and their families. This is a way to create a more inclusive society,” Mushanawani aptly said.

Since its establishment, NetOne continues to channel essential resources to uplift the livelihoods of disadvantaged and marginalized communities.

For the record, the parastatal has channeled significant resources to improve the lives of people with albinism.

The recent gesture adds another seam to ongoing interventions, some as those undertaken in Matabeleland provinces last year.
The corporate body noted that people with albinism are often discriminated against and stigmatization towards them is rife due to their condition.

Out of this realization, NetOne has embarked on an initiative, through the corporate social responsibility health and care pillar, to alleviate the burden this key population faces and combat their discrimination.

The communication giant revealed that the program will be rolled out countrywide as opposed to initiatives that are domiciled in selected provinces.
