In a remarkable display of intellectual prowess and public speaking skills, Old Windsor Primary School from Zimbabwe has emerged as the champion of the Pan African Debate and Public Speaking Tournament held in Nairobi, Kenya. The tournament, which took place at Kasarani Group of Schools, brought together top schools from across the continent to compete in debates, public speaking, and other related activities.
The school was represented by Leora Deloise Damiyano, Maitaishe Chifamba, Terrence Ncube, Cantona Wadzingaire, Kudiwanashe Sakupwanya, Bethany Banda, Kourtney Shumba, Ruvarashe Muzokomba, Tamara Mupungu, Tavonga Mutasa, Passion Patsika and Adriel Ruvinga. This extremely talented squad is managed by two exceptional coaches, Mr Evington Sanyatwe and Ms Evidence Joseph.
This latest victory marks a hat-trick of triumphs for Old Windsor Primary School, which has consistently demonstrated its excellence in debate and public speaking competitions. Earlier this year, the school brought home the Debate and Public Speaking Trophies from the national tournament held at Amai Mugabe Group of Schools. They also emerged victorious at the SADC tournament held at Beira International School in Mozambique bringing home all the trophies.
However, their most recent achievement is arguably their most impressive yet. At the Pan African Debate and Public Speaking Tournament, Old Windsor Primary School dominated the competition, winning trophies in Debate, Relay Speeches, and Storytelling. This impressive haul of trophies is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing the intellectual and public speaking skills of its students.
The school’s success in these competitions is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of its students, teachers, and staff. The school’s debate and public speaking team has worked tirelessly to hone their skills, and their efforts have paid off spectacularly.
Old Windsor Primary School’s victory in the Pan African Debate and Public Speaking Tournament is not just a triumph for the school, but also for the country as a whole. The scripts presented in these competitions are in line with the Heritage-based curriculum. It demonstrates that Zimbabwean students have the intellectual capacity and public speaking skills to compete with the best on the continent.
As the school celebrates its latest achievement, it is clear that Old Windsor Primary School is a force to be reckoned with in the world of debate and public speaking. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented group of students.
One of the families we spoke to, Mrs Luwisa Damiyano and Dr David Damiyano could not hide their joy, as their daughter, who is celebrating her 8th birthday, scooped a trophy.
