Orex Gas and Energy Zimbabwe Limited, an emerging and fast-growing player in the Zimbabwean Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) market on Saturday 8 January 2021 launched a new satellite marketing base at Manresa Mabvuku car park behind Manresa council beerhall and has vowed to empower the Mabvuku,Tafara and Manresa community through its Corporate Social Responsibility Programme (CSR).
Orex Gas is a subsidiary of Irewil International (PVT) Ltd which has a range of projects in Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Some of the projects include farming, mining and the MEDCOM Foundation charity organization which focuses on healthcare support, welfare support for the elderly and widows including educational assistance to deserving candidates in the Mabvuku community.
Penyai Mutisi, Orex Gas and Energy, Projects Manager said that the opening of the Mabvuku branch is the beginning of a journey that is yet to come. She said that more branches are set to be launched in the near future.
Mutisi said that the company is giving back to the community by practising its corporate social responsibility initiatives under the theme: ‘Clean and Hygiene’ in appreciation of women and the girl child through donations of sanitary wear for their personal hygiene.
At the launch occasion, the company also made a donation of two bins in a bid to promote environmental awareness in the Mabvuku and Manresa communities. Sanitary wear donations were made to girls from the age of 10 to 18 in the community.
The company will also support the community through a lucky draw promotion for its customers where winners stand a chance to win school fee payments for their children and other prizes.
The launch event was also graced by Tawanda Chidzidzi, ZANU (PF) Harare province ward 19 councillor who commended the company for its interventions and vision to empower the community. He applauded the company saying that it was one of the first indigenous companies in the community to play a corporate social responsibility role.
Directors of the enterprises, Mr William Mutisi and Mrs Irene Mutisi who are based in the United Kingdom said that they are planning to support the Mabvuku and Manresa communities through empowering the girl child and supporting educational development programmes.
They also said at the launch that they have plans to facilitate the establishment of health facilities for the elderly in the community.
Other interventions planned include facilitating educational and employment opportunities for deserving candidates from the community in the diaspora through their foundation and charity organization.
Mr William Mutisi said that he felt compelled to give back to his community since he grew up in Mabvuku and was educated at Mabvuku High School but is currently living in the United Kingdom.
