Outgoing AU Commissioner Josefa Sacko honoured with medal for outstanding work

Addis Ababa – 16 February 2025 – Angolan Josefa Correia Sacko, outgoing African Union Commissioner for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, was honoured in Addis Ababa, with a medal of honour of merit, by the President of the Republic, Mohamed Oud Ghazouani.

 

Th honour came on the sidelines of the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government, which ends today, at which the same honour was awarded to the Chairperson of the AU Commission, and the Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining – Moussa Faki Mahamat and Albert Muchanga respectively.

 

The diplomat had recently been elected in London as one of the 100 most influential people in climate policy by Apolitical, an international platform of peers that supports efforts to influence climate policy around the world.

 

The ambassador has also seen her work recognised in the ‘Avance Media’ choice, which includes illustrious women whose work and achievements continue to inspire the next generation of women on the continent. The list features 100 women from 35 African countries who are changing the female narrative and challenging the status quo for women in Africa.

 

Josefa Sacko, who served two terms as AU Commissioner, also spent 13 years as Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO) in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
