Writes Lloyd Rabaya
The Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr. Tamer Almassri has condemned the continued offensives on Palestinian women and girls by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.
According to Almassri, Palestinian women are subject to unimaginable suffering, and deprivation of fundamental rights, leading them to abandon their homes as they fear for their lives.
“In Gaza, the scale of the tragedy is staggering. Over 12,316 Palestinian women have been martyred while 162,000 have contracted infectious diseases due to the inhumane conditions imposed by the siege,” he said.
According to Almassri, about 50 000 pregnant women have lost their foetuses and about 2 000 women and girls have been left permanently disabled.
Almassri added that efforts by the Israeli government to resettle Palestinians from their land are part of a larger strategy to erase the Palestinian people.
“These efforts will ultimately fail, and the Palestinian people will continue their just struggle for an independent state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital,” he emphasized.
Almassri has pleaded with the international community to put heads together and fight for the ultimate freedom of the Palestinian people, especially women who are the most vulnerable.
“The State of Palestine urgently calls upon the international community to implement targeted sanctions against the occupying state to pressure it to cease its aggression and protect Palestinian lives, facilitate the immediate and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian women and children, and work towards a just and lasting resolution to the conflict, based on international law and UN resolutions,” he added.
Since the Israeli invasion of Gaza, Palestinian women have, according to Almassri, been subject to constant gunfire and are denied fundamental rights, including the right to life, housing, and security.
