Renowned power generation firm, Power Giants Zimbabwe recently received another feather in the cap for electrifying Mabvazuva suburb. Now 70 percent complete, the project being spearheaded by Exodus and Company is expected to create housing for more than  6 000 families.

Located in Ruwa, near Harare — the gated medium-density community, Mabvazuva, which literally translates to “where the sun rises” (the East) — sits elegantly on a 500-hectare piece of land with provisions for social amenities such as schools, churches, police as well as a service station.

Speaking during a tour of the leafy suburb earlier this month, top Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) officials gave the firm a pat on the back after for its sterling workmanship and upholding ‘ZETDC’s electrical standards’.

ZETDC General Manager Engineer Gurupira applauded Power Giants for their relentless pursuit of excellence saying, “The energy and power sector should create more meaningful job opportunities for young people. With such competence levels, we have witnessed here, Zimbabwe should be the envy of the SADC region and Africa at large in the near future. In line with the country’s Vision 2030, we want to make sure that we become one of the biggest producers of smart energy solutions in the region, with a particular focus on solar.”

Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa, the Power Giants Group Transmission Director for Southern Africa said his company also strives to see Zimbabwe becoming self-reliant in energy and power generation, with the sector becoming one of the top contributors to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.

“As Power Giants Zimbabwe we are very grateful to have our own market share within the industry, we have been very competitive in making a significant input in the resuscitation of the economy. We count ourselves as one of the best electrical engineering firms in Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa region at large.

“A site visit by ZETDC officials including General Manager Engineer Gurupira and other senior officials comprising Engineer Mbavarira, Engineer Mututu, Mrs. Tenga, the Liaison Officer for ZETDC Ruwa depot where Power Giants Southern Africa was given platinum ratings, testifies that we remain a force to reckon with in the industry.

“We held a fruitful site visit meeting with the Mabvazuva Committee led by Mr. Mwenya, Ms. Shumba, Mr. Musoni and Mr. Mbwera while Power Giants Zimbabwe was represented by the Group Finance Director for Power Giants Southern and East Africa Mrs. E T Kachirekwa, along with Group Transmission Director Mr. Edzai Kachirekwa,” said the firm’s National spokesperson, Mrs. S Malinga in an interview with this publication.

She added that “As Power Giants, we are experts in electrical installations including high voltage transmission lines, solar grid construction, agricultural installations such as pivots, pumps, MCC Rooms, Control Panels (Stardelta, Motor Control) among others.”

The electrical firm has numerous branches throughout the country including in Harare, Gweru, Bulawayo, and Mutare as well as a presence in most SADC countries such as Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, and South Africa.
