People with Disabilities(PWDs) have appealed to the government to make concerted efforts in ensuring that the Presidential Climate-Proofed Pfumvudza/Intwasa Scheme become a conducive and accommodating programme which also benefit them.
Disability Amalgamation Community Trust (DACT) Executive Director, Henry Chivhanga pointed out that Pfumvudza cannot be able to turnaround PWDs’ livelihoods if it does not come in a special and unique way which effectively caters for that group.
He also said that many PWDs own no land and they were encountering challenges to access essential farming equipments.
“The majority of People with Disabilities’ livelihoods won’t change because of Pfumvudza, the majority do not have land whether through the land reform, vehicle or traditional land allocation by village heads.
“People with Disabilities have been left out in many government programs, this program won’t bring equity since it is just the same as the one being extended to any other citizens,”said Chivhanga.
Chivhanga further encouraged PWDs to actively participate in national programs whilst ensuring that their rights are not infringed.
“I urge to Persons with Disabilities to enroll for Pfumvudza which is a government program so as to get their share.
“However,as DACT we do not have the right to choose for them a political party, exercise your political right as you so wish,”added Chivhanga.
President Mnangagwa last week at the 9th Edition of the National Disability Expo vowed to support People with Disabilities with Pfumvudza inputs .
