A rising AfroJazz musician is teaming up with popular musician Progress Chipfumo and other artistes to drum up support for girl children’s rights .
Speaking to this publication, Ancient Tribes front-man Maizon Tazvitya told this publication that he was incensed by the plight of young girls and women hence the initiative of mobilising funds to cater for the under privileged girls and women.
“Our main aim is to fundraise for a girl child rights awareness campaign to happen in one of the peri-urban settlements of Harare with an aim of instilling the idea of child protection and open the eyes of communities the effects of child abuse to the society,” said Tazvitya.
According to Maizon, the first port of call will be Hopley settlement where the artiste will join hands with the Social Welfare Department and Ministry of Health in disseminating vital information through art for the emancipation of girls.
The Majurumbwe hit-maker has already line up a concert ‘Something musical at Joina City’ to be held on the 12th of this month in Harare where he is going to share the stage with Progress Chipfumo and other local artistes.
“The concert promises to be a fireworks and artistes on line up include the veteran Progress Chipfumo , Eunice Magumbo a great mbira player ,DJ knife and more are promising to make a date,” added the former primary school teacher.
Maizon rose to fame after releasing Majurumbwe which got massive radio play on local stations.
His other single Tamari is also topping local radio charts.
The backing outfit Ancient Tribes won the popular national Chibuku Road to Fame competition in 2011.
Maizon Tazvitya is also a Chipawo (Children Performing Arts Workshop) mentee and has worked with a number of local musicians including the late national hero Oliver Mutukudzi.
