The conclusion of the 44th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in Harare was marked by a heartwarming and memorable luncheon hosted by the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, at the Heritage Village in Harare today.
Delegates, both local and foreign, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Museum of African Liberation earlier in the day, were treated to an array of traditional Zimbabwean dishes that left them charmed and impressed.
The luncheon, held in the serene environment of the Heritage Village, was a culinary celebration of Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage.
Amai Mnangagwa, known for her dedication to preserving and promoting Zimbabwean traditions, curated a menu that featured an array of traditional delicacies.
Among the highlights were road runners (free-range chickens), nyevhe (wild vegetables), mapfura wine (marula fruit wine), mahewu (a traditional non-alcoholic beverage), and other beloved local dishes.
As delegates savoured the flavours of Zimbabwe, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and cultural appreciation.
“This is a true taste of Zimbabwe. The First Lady has done an exceptional job in showcasing the culinary heritage of this beautiful country,” remarked one foreign delegate.
A member of the Young Women for ED, Blessing Sosono expressed her admiration for the First Lady’s efforts, saying, “Amai Mnangagwa has always been a champion of our culture, and today she has outdone herself. The food was not only delicious but also a powerful reminder of our shared heritage.”
Another attendee, commented, “It’s not every day that we get to share our traditional food with such a diverse group of people. Amai Mnangagwa has reminded us all of the importance of our roots.”
Foreign delegates were equally impressed, with several noting how the luncheon provided a unique and authentic experience.
“The hospitality here is unparalleled. The First Lady has made us feel at home, and the food was simply outstanding,” said a representative from Eswatini.
The luncheon was attended by a host of dignitaries, including MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora and former MDC legislator Tapiwa Mashakada. Both were seen enjoying the traditional dishes and mingling with other guests.
The Heritage Village, already a significant cultural landmark in Harare, was the perfect setting for this celebration. The rustic surroundings and traditional huts added to the authenticity of the event, making it a memorable experience for all who attended.
