Yesterday Sakunda unveiled a three-year sponsorship for Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC in Harare

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Minister of Sports, Arts and Recreation Honourable Kirsty Coventry applauded Sakunda for the move and said the sponsorship came at a time when many sporting disciplines were struggling due to the effects of Covid 19.

”I would like to encourage every sport-loving citizen to get vaccinated so that they will be able to get into stadiums to watch sports,” said Hon Coventry.

Both teams were given US$890 000 for three years. Among the invited guest at the ceremony were soccer legends Moses “Bambo ” Chunga and Madinda “Khathazile ” Ndlovu who were honoured for their greatest contribution to the history of football in Zimbabwe.

Another soccer legend who was honoured is the late George Shaya who was given a house worth US$120 000 while the living soccer legends Madinda Ndlovu and Moses Chunga were each given houses worth US$90 000 by Sakunda boss, Mr Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

Mr Tagwirei also offered each team captain and coach a car .”If you are here tomorrow (Wednesday) come and take your cars. They are waiting for you at my office,” said Tagwirei.

He urged both teams not to include his name in the club management.

” Don’t put my name into your team’s management. I’m here just to sponsor you but not to be included in the running of your teams. I am here to give you money only,” said the Sakunda boss.

Among other dignitaries who witnessed the signing ceremony was the deputy minister of Arts, Sports and Recreational honourable Tino Machakaire, Highlanders chairman Johnfat Sibanda, Dembare chairman Mr Isaiah Mupfurutsa and Nhlanhla Dube, the Bosso Chief Executive Officer.
