The Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZim) is deepening capital market awareness through the #MySchool outreach programme, which is empowering students and teachers across Zimbabwe with essential knowledge about the capital market. Leveraging the innovative capital market toolkit, (the toolkit) the programme is designed to foster financial literacy and encourage future participation in the capital markets.
The toolkit, whose contents were reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), serves as a supplementary learning resource. It equips teachers with the necessary tools to deliver financial literacy education through a “train the trainer” methodology, ensuring the programme’s sustainability.
Since the launch of the Capital Market Toolkit in November 2023, SECZim has conducted interactive workshops at individual schools, as well as schools at fairs and exhibitions, reaching over 2000 students and 50 teachers. Schools that have benefited include government, mission and private schools, from Rudandha Secondary in Zaka to Nyanga High School Marist Brothers, and other schools which were finalists in the 2024 Capital Market Quiz.
A key feature of the #MySchool programme is its focus on sustainability. By running on site workshops and handing over the Capital Market Toolkit to schools, SECZim ensures that students and teachers can continue to access and benefit from the learning materials long after the outreach sessions. During the workshops, SECZim staff provide learners and teachers with a comprehensive understanding of toolkit components. Using various teaching methods and fun interactive approaches, students and teachers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and confidence to integrate capital market education into their curriculum effectively.
SECZim invites individuals, corporates, NGOs, and other organizations to join the #MySchool Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project by adopting schools of their choice and sponsor the production of the toolkits which will then be donated to such identified schools as a means to give back to their alma mater. This collaborative effort will help expand the reach of the programme and deepen financial inclusion across Zimbabwe.
Individuals and corporates interested in knowing more about the # MySchool programme are encouraged to contact SECZim for further details.
