The Wallow Lodge Victoria Falls: A dream place for the tourist

“Majestic, refreshing, epic, breathtaking, serene, soothing,” were the remarks by a group of tourists who spent time at the Wallow Lodge in Victoria Falls last week.

Situated overlooking the Masuwe River, The Wallow offers an intimate safari getaway in the heart of a private concession within Victoria Falls National Park.

“As a travel journalist, I have been to different places all over the world. I enjoyed myself in other countries but I was ignorant of this earthly paradise, the Wallow Lodge – one of the best-kept secrets and this rendezvous in Victoria Falls organised for me and other journalists working in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) by Boundless Southern Africa in partnership with We Are Victoria Falls will remain etched on my mind as one of the most magnificent places in Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), said Timothy Mapfumo,” a leading journalist with the Southern African Times.

The Wallow Lodge is a perfect camp set in 4,500 acres of wilderness and includes breathtaking views of the Batoka Gorge. The Masuwe river gently meanders across the wild landscape, before plummeting 140 meters into the cavernous lips of the Gorge. Wearing the imprints of time and nature, this magnificent crack in the earth crust is a five-minute drive from camp and stretches across 17kms of untouched gorge frontage.

“Guests staying with us will enjoy an inclusive game drive that ends with a scenic sundowner at this iconic location. The bustling town of Victoria Falls is a short twenty-minute transfer from the lodge, giving guests the freedom to tailor-make their experience and find a balance between the exclusivity of the bush and the excitement of Africa’s Adventure Capital. Additional optional activities include nature walks, river safaris, elephant encounters, and a tour of the local village. The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust is located on the same property, offering guests the opportunity to learn about the rescue and rehabilitation programs for keystone species in the wilderness,” said Tinashe Murasiranwa, the General Manager of the Wallow Lodge.

The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust is doing amazing work to conserve wildlife. They run a rescue operation and a laboratory that carries out research on wildlife health in the KAZA TFCA. Over the years that the Trust has been operating, many different species of mammals and birds have been taken in and cared for. Species include everything from bush babies to buffalo to marabou storks and mongoose.

In May 2018, the Trust completed the building of its brand new wildlife high-care rehabilitation center. This facility consists of a laboratory/storage room, 3 small and one large outdoor enclosure that will allow it to hold rescued animals for short-term, high-care rehabilitation until they can be released back into the wild.

The Wallow Lodge meets the demands for an authentic and meaningful connection with nature that leaves behind a lighter footprint. In keeping with conservation philosophy, the lodge operates partially off the grid and relies largely on a solar system for its power.

The Wallow Lodge is a plastic bottle and straw-free environment and on the site, a water purification system ensures that fresh water is readily available in glass bottles and eco-friendly dispensers. Wallow Lodge consciously seeks to eliminate the unnecessary use of energy and non-biodegradable material and all the decking of the lodge is constructed from environmentally friendly material that consists of recycled plastic and bamboo.
