The fundraising show at Kotwa High School organized by Sunguru musician Collen Timeo on Friday lived to its billing.

The charity which coincided with the Culture Day celebrations was a fun-filled day that drew a sizeable crowd from some nearby schools namely Nyamakuyo, Kotwa Primary school, and Hilltop College.

The performance galore included that of the Kotwa High School Marimba Band who at one point was joined on stage by Collen Timeo, a former student and organiser of the fundraising show.

The Sungura Vibes leader also recited a deep Shona spiritual poem that took everyone in awe.

Before Timeo arrived, the crowd was kept on its toes by his band which belted some cover versions of popular Sungura songs and sampled some of its own compositions.

But as soon as the former Kotwa student took to the stage, the crowd went agog showing how they were eagerly waiting for the musician.

Among his catalogue of hits that he performed include Mandivavarira and Dzorai Moyo.

Speaking after the superb show, the soft-spoken musician said he was overwhelmed by the huge success of the show and had a nostalgic feel returning to his former school.

“I would like to applaud the Kotwa community for its unwavering support despite the hurdles we faced organizing the show,” Timeo told this publication.

“I was also delighted to reconnect with my former teachers, Mr. Nyakungwa and Ms. Mudhombo among many others,” he added.

He also singled out the headmaster of the school, Mr. Makiwa for leading a successful coordinating team and corporates who also chipped in with resources.

“I would like to thank Head, Mr. Makiwa; Ms. Mudhombo, and Mr. Makuyana for splendid coordination.

“Our partners, may God Bless you abundantly – Delma Printers, Edulight Book Publishing, Nelloc Oemit Private Limited, Timz Creative Arts Group, Wairemera Brand, I Chitofu and L Pauros,” cited Timeo.

The proceeds of the show will buy new curriculum textbooks for the school and plans are afoot to organise the handover ceremony.

According to the musician, his desire is to help the schools in the entire Mudzi District with resources while also nurturing those with musical talents to realize their dreams.
