War veterans aligned to Cde Cephas Ncube and Cde Samuel Parirenyatwa who lost a Supreme Court appeal on Thursday, May 2025 against a faction led by Cde Elias Moffat Marashwa defied the court by holding elections in Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province.

The Ncube faction had challenged an interdict against them ruled by the High Court which had granted them an interdict against the Marashwa faction for the legitimacy of the leadership of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA).

In comments following the elections, Cde Marashwa said the Ncube faction was sadly continuing with illegal activities in violation of Court orders.

“It’s sad that these comrades have lost direction. They are now acting as if they are the law. We fought to liberate this country and should at all times respect and protect the Constitution as one of the virtues of the war for liberation. We expect the law to take its course. The long arm of the law will catch up with these malcontents,” Cde Marashwa said.
