We are not planning demonstrations: War veterans under ZNLWVA

Legitimate founders of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) have distanced themselves from concerned citizens planning a demonstration, stating that the organization was not consulted and that they can not participate in illegal activities.

The ZNLWVA, led by Comrade Moffat Marashwa is therefore demanding that their name must be removed from the plan and urges citizens to disregard any calls for demonstrations from individuals falsely representing their association.

“We are the national executive committee members of the ZNLWVA, a corporate body as defined by the PVO Act with a constitution, whose patron is the President of the country HE Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the Commander in chief of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces. We accord him the utmost requisite respect as provided for by our ZNLWVA constitution,” Cde Marashwa said.

The war veterans said any communique that speaks for ZNLWVA must come from their national publicity secretary, Mr Samuel Getbusy Mhlanga.

The liberation war fighters argue that they have the ZNLWVA original registration certificate number 1/90 dated 12 December 1989. They also have a High Court provisional order that mandates them to run the affairs of the association as per their constitution.

“In this regard, the likes of Blessed Geza and Ethan Mathibela have no authority to speak on behalf of or represent the ZNLWVA. Regrettably, we were not consulted by some of the purportedly concerned citizens who cited our ZNLWVA as the first group of those who were applying to stage a nationwide demonstration on 20 March 2025 or beyond. It was, therefore, malicious for anyone to literary site us as such.

“We, therefore, demand that the concerned citizens remove our name (ZNLWVA) from the list of their action plan which they published, failure to do so they risk being dragged to the court of law. We completely dissociate ourselves from their plans. We are consistent with the PVO Act. We, therefore, urge the citizens to disregard any calls by rogue elements who masquerade themselves as representing the ZNLWVA.

“We continue to lobby for the betterment of the livelihood of our membership. So far, we are constantly making efforts to address the welfare of the war veterans. We have made strides in that regard,” Comrade Mhlanga said.
