A fairly new labour union representing the wholesale and retail sector is planning a huge celebration of the workers’ day on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Progressive Retail and Wholesale Workers Union of Zimbabwe(PRWWUZ), Secretary-General, Phillip Mafundu, said the celebrations will be held at the City Sports Centre and is inviting all workers in the wholesale and retail sector to grace the occasion.
“We are expecting over 5,000 delegates from our sector to come to this event which will run under the theme ‘Resilient Recovery, Social Justice, Harmony and Decent Work for All”, said Mafundu.
He added that there will be lots of entertainment headlined by ‘Sean Timba’ hitmaker, Sulumani Chimbetu.
The PRWWUZ boss also highlighted how the union wants to work in harmony with the government to ensure workers’ welfare is catered for.
“Our union does not believe in attrition but instead we want to create harmony with the government, employer and employees. This will help us to escape the sanctions-induced vagaries in our economy.
“In sync with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’, we believe that the labour movement has a big role to play in seeing the fruition of the national aspiration of attaining an upper middle-class economy by 2030,” he explained.
The guest of honour at the event will be the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Simon Masanga.
