The Centre for Conflict Management Transformation (CCMT) is holding a two-day training workshop for young female political party leaders in Harare.

The workshop is aimed at empowering young women leaders on the roles they have to play in building peace at intra party as well as inter party levels.

“This initiative is aimed at creating knowledgeable young female leaders on the roles they have to play to facilitate intra party and inter party conflict management. We hope after this workshop mutually realised concerns between parties can be solved amicably,” CCMT Interventions Coordinator Xavier Mudangwe said.

The workshop is aimed at fostering international resolutions and agreements that call for the centralisation of women in all national processes.

“As confirming to international treaties and specifically UN Security Council Resolution 1325, women are considered an imperative to sustainable peace building efforts. As such this training seeks to improve the conditions of inclusion of women in the peace building process,” CCMT Research and Advocacy Coordinator Shadreck Vengesai said.

The training also seeks to facilitate for the socio-economic conditions of Zimbabweans in general considering the relationship between conflict and development.

“There is a correlation between Peace and development with peaceful conditions encouraging development. We hope that after the training the young leaders can negotiate socio-economic growth through promotion of peaceful co-existence among citizens and in turn curb intra and inter party conflicts,” Vengesai said.

The training is expected to foster mutual consensus between Zimbabwean parties which could improve political conflict management strategies.

“The training should improve understanding of conflict management and with the major parties involved we hope that as the youth you will assume a central role in cascading the issues to all your party structures and in turn realise a decline in the cases of both intra and inter party conflicts.” Mudangwe said.

CCMT intends to continually partner with youth in the negotiation of peaceful coexistence between young leaders across the political divide for the betterment of peace.

“This program should foster partnerships between youths and CCMT so as to continually positively contribute to the establishment of peace in Zimbabwe both at a intra party level and inter party level,” Vengesai also said.
