ZANU (PF) Women’s league joins fight against COVID-19

ZANU (PF) Secretary for Women’s Affairs who is also Senate President Mabel Memory Chinomona has applauded efforts being made by  President Emmerson Mnangagwa, all Government departments, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), churches, traditional leaders and the generality of Zimbabweans in their responsiveness and pro-activeness to the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The disease has been declared a global pandemic and described as the greatest challenge to negatively affect the whole globe since World War 2 and Africa and Zimbabwe have not been spared.

“It is against this background that the ZANU (PF) Women’s League would like to thank and salute all the women of Zimbabwe who have demonstrated their patriotism and determination to public health safety by complying with our President Cde Emmerson DambudzoMnangagwa’s call for all citizens to strictly adhere to the conditions of the 21 Day National Lockdown to curb the spread of the pandemic,” said Chinomona in a statement.

She said the ZANU (PF) Women’s League was humbled by this gesture of compliance, especially given the prevailing harsh economic environment given that women constitute the majority of the workforce in the informal sector.

“Nevertheless, the women have been undeterred to take heed of the call in fighting the COVID-19 virus. We, therefore, call upon all people to remain resilient and guard against machinations such as fake news circulating on social media platforms, bent to derail government efforts that aim at containing the spread of this catastrophic pandemic,” said Chinomona.

The government, with the support of its partners, is currently implementing precautionary measures, that include the 21-day national lockdown to try and curb the transmission of COVID-19 by observing strict social distancing, high personal hygiene and staying at home. The ZANU (PF) Women’s League urged all Zimbabweans in general and the women of Zimbabwe, in particular, to continue praying and crying for mercy and the grace of God to overshadow us during this trying time.

The ZANU (PF) Women’s League said it further salutes and applauds all efforts by President Mnangagwa’s Government to help vulnerable groups deal with effects of the lockdown through various social and economic grants.

“This will no doubt go a long way in consolidating the fight against the spread of the deadly pandemic,” said The ZANU PF Women’s League. The ZANU PF Women’s League also extended its support and solidarity to all victims of the deadly pandemic in one way or another.

“It is not easy for women to bear the pain and psychological effects of having a loved fall sick, but you are unable to visit or talk to them as they will be in isolation or quarantine. We pray for strength from God in this regard and wish all who have been infected by the virus a speedy and total recovery and extend our heartfelt and deepest condolences to all families of those who have lost their loved ones to the deadly COVID-19,” read the statement.

The Women’s League re-affirmed its commitment to play its part in assisting the Party and Government to achieve the country’s sustainable gender equality aspirations and pledges to continue the fight for 50/50 gender representation through equitable policies at all levels and across all sectors in pursuit of total political and socio-economic empowerment for every woman by 2030.
