Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – The Zimbabwe Council of Copyrights (ZICCO) has taken a major step in expanding its reach under the leadership of Board Chair Tindo Chiraya, successfully launching its outreach program in Bulawayo. The event, which attracted hundreds of businesspeople, artists, and community members, focused on educating stakeholders about the importance of copyright laws and the consequences of non-compliance.
Chiraya, who has been at the forefront of strengthening ZICCO’s presence nationwide, emphasized that the outreach was part of the board’s commitment to protecting the rights of creators. “When we assumed office, we made a promise to extend our reach and ensure that copyright protection is accessible to all. Today’s successful event is a clear demonstration of that commitment,” he said.
The event was widely hailed as a success, with ZICCO CEO Tafadzwa Masembura expressing gratitude to all contributors. “This was a huge achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without the support and hard work of our team members, partners, and stakeholders,” he said. “Special thanks go to our board chair, Mr. Chiraya, for his leadership in making this event a reality.”
Veteran musician Chase Skuza, who was present at the event, commended ZICCO’s efforts, particularly in ensuring artists receive royalties for their work. He acknowledged Chiraya’s leadership in driving these initiatives. “ZICCO is giving hope to artists who have contributed so much to the industry but often struggle financially. Under this leadership, we are seeing real change,” Skuza said.
The outreach also coincided with the opening of a new ZICCO office in Bulawayo, a move welcomed by board member Thabiso Moyo. “Having a physical presence here is a major step forward. It will ensure that local artists and businesses have direct access to copyright services,” she noted.
With the success of the Bulawayo launch, Chiraya and his team are already looking ahead to their next outreach event in the Midlands province. “We’re excited to continue this journey, and our next stop is Midlands. Dates will be announced soon,” he said.
Under Chiraya’s leadership, ZICCO is making significant strides in promoting and protecting creativity and innovation in Zimbabwe, ensuring that artists and businesses can fully benefit from their intellectual property.
