The Conference that is being planned by the Zimbabwe Institute of Strategic Conference (ZIST) to take place on 17 August 2023 is an important gesture to build confidence within all critical sectors of the economy.
Speaking ng to this publication, the ZIST Executive Director, Dr. Tinashe Muzamhindo said the conference will be held at Sterling Hotel in the sprawling suburb of Borrowdale in Harare under the theme “Brand Zimbabwe: Leveraging Investment Strategy through Business – Media Partnership to drive economic prosperity towards Vision 2030.”
Key stakeholders from the Government, private and public media, captains of industry, business executives, church leadership, civil society, and public sector players are expected to grace the conference.
Proposed speakers include Hon Monica Mutsvangwa, the Information Minister; Hon Fredrick Shava, the Foreign Affairs Minister; Ambassador Arikana Chihombori; Dumisani Mleya, the Editor in Chief of Newshawks; Vincent Kahiya, the Chief Operating Officer of Visual Point Creative group; Ernest Mudzengi, the Media Centre Chief Executive Officer; Cris Chinaka, the Executive Director and Editor in Chief of ZimFact; Nyaradzo Makombe, the Station Manager of Capitalk 100.4FM; Victoria Ruzvidzo, the Sunday Mail Editor; and Khlowani Nyathi, the Editor in Chief of Alpha and Media Holdings.
“The aim of the breakfast meeting is to reinforce the message of building Zimbabwe’s brand by leveraging on a strategy to restore confidence on all strategic platforms. ZIST is creating a strategic platform meant to establish solution-oriented ideas towards a sustainable business low hanging policy options to fix Zimbabwe’s economy and keep it on track toward Vision 2030. The business and media breakfast meeting will provide a unique opportunity for media and community, public sector, private sector, civic leaders, and policymakers as well as a select group of leaders from the private sector and non-governmental entities to exchange experiences and good practices in prioritising, building trust between Government of Zimbabwe and media players. The main agenda of this meeting is to build a communication gap between media players and Government,” Dr. Muzamhindo said.
He underscored the importance of creating a platform that brings all parties together through a diversity of views to promote nation-building by leveraging a strategy toward Vision 2030.
“The media is the fourth estate, and the world is driven through media and is the only avenue to market and attract investment. There is a need for an inclusive approach toward Vision 2030 on creating a common ground between Government and media strategic players. Building investment confidence is attained through balanced views from media outlets. That is central to building business confidence.
“There is turbulence in the media industry, which is evolving around mistrust between other media practitioners and Government, and we are meeting as a bridge to strike a common template and bring confidence in the country. Creating a winning dialogue between public and private media demystifies and restores business confidence. This will contribute positively towards competitiveness and nation-building towards Vision 2030. The conference seeks to ensure broader and meaningful participation in the media fraternity by Zimbabweans at large to achieve sustainable development and prosperity,” Dr. Muzamhindo added.
The conference will set a clear path on expectations and proper economic recovery process, restore confidence, and mutual understanding between private and public media, and set a new tone in business employment creation, economic development, and proper development strategy to enhance growth.
ZIST has built a broader alliance around the idea together with the Zimbabwe Media Commission, Ministry of Information and Publicity, Media Centre, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Herald, ZTV, Star FM, Chronicle, Spiked Online Media, Newsday, Financial Gazette, The Standard, AND Sunday Mail, among others.
