In a gesture aimed at improving vision and quality of life, Zvimba East legislator, Kudakwashe Mananzva, recently donated over 400 pairs of eye spectacles to elderly residents in his constituency.
Each pair, valued at $200, represents a contribution to addressing the often-overlooked vision challenges faced by older citizens in the area.
The donation is part of Mananzva’s broader commitment to improving healthcare access in Zvimba East.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude, with some saying the gesture would transform their daily lives.
“I have been struggling to see clearly for years, and I couldn’t afford glasses. This donation will help me read my Bible and do simple tasks like sewing. I am truly grateful to our MP for remembering us,” said 72-year-old Rebecca Muteto.
Mananzva said the initiative was inspired by the need to uplift marginalized groups in the community, particularly the elderly who often lack access to affordable vision care.
“Good vision is essential for productivity and a better quality of life. Our elderly citizens have contributed immensely to this community. This is a small way to give back and ensure they can lead dignified lives,” said Mananzva.
The legislator also revealed plans to conduct further health outreach programs in the constituency.
“Many of us have been living with vision impairments for years. This intervention will not only restore our sight but also our confidence and independence,” said one elder who identified himself as Mhofu
Community leaders praised Mananzva’s efforts, urging other policymakers to emulate his example.
“This is a commendable act of service. It shows that our representative is in touch with the needs of the people. We hope this will inspire more development-focused initiatives in Zvimba East.” said one Councillor in the Constituency
The donation is part of a series of community development projects spearheaded by Mananzva since his election into office.
Other initiatives include donating stationery in schools and facilitating youth empowerment programs.
Residents expressed hope that the MP would continue addressing the healthcare and social challenges facing Zvimba East, particularly those affecting vulnerable groups.
