CHINHOYI- The Insurance and Pension Commission (IPEC) Director, Cuthbert Munjoma has highlighted that most of Zimbabweans’ pensions are going uncollected with more than ZWL$2 billion dollars yet to be collected by pensioners.
He was speaking during the official handover ceremony of a solar-powered borehole at Chengetanai Old People’s Home in Chinhoyi.
“Many people are not collecting their pensions for some reason and as IPEC we are encouraging those facing challenges to come forward so that we can assist them to get access to their pensions,” he said.
IPEC donated the solar-powered borehole following a report by the Parliamentary portfolio on social welfare which highlighted various difficulties being faced by old peoples’ homes around the country which include water challenges.
“We have been supporting old people’s homes around the country since 2018 and we are proud to assist this home with the borehole,” said Munjoma.
Meanwhile, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa in a speech read on her behalf by Director in her office, Douglas Chiwiro said the donation has come in handy during the unprecedented times brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I would like to thank IPEC for coming in handy and augmenting governments efforts for providing social protection to our elders through water provision which is essential during the increased cases of covid infections,” she said.
Anne Mercy Senzanje, Chengetanai Old People’s home Director thanked IPEC for extending the donation.
IPEC left members of the home with smiles for it also donated some Christmas groceries.
