Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) says it budgeting around ZWL700 million for disbursements towards road construction works from the targeted ZWL 1.2 billion revenue collections in 2020 as the administration seeks to play a major role in revamping of the country’s road network.
The parastatal which is responsible for the management and development of Zimbabwe’s national road network is optimistic of enhancing revenue collection with a view to augment treasury in financing road construction works across the country.

ZINARA Board Chairperson Engineer Michael Madanha said the parastatal is targeting to disburse around ZWL700 million towards road construction and rehabilitation in 2020 with the major priority project being the Harare-Beitbridge Road.
“2020 is going to be a busy year for us and as ZINARA our strategic goal is to ensure that we provide adequate funds to all our road authorities so that at least we augment what the ministry of finance is doing,” said Engineer Madanha.

For 2020, the government department is also targeting to ensure that 20 kilometres of an identified road in each province is tarred. Addressing delegates at the recently held Infrastructure Summit in Victoria Falls Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Joel Biggie Matiza said government is pleased with improved ZINARA revenue inflows.
“We have managed to reorganize the road fund to ensure that it sticks to its core mandate and l must say that we are pleased with the revenue inflows now hence you see the massive road rehabilitation works in the provinces,”Minister Matiza said.

As part of the five-year strategy which runs until 2023 the road fund has also prioritised strengthening of corporate governance and intensifying efforts to plug revenue leakages. A vibrant road network and sound infrastructure base is being viewed as critical in the attainment of targets under vision 2030.
