The countrywide presidential borehole drilling scheme has set a target of 1,000 boreholes a month as the government intensifies efforts for clean water supply countrywide.
Yesterday, some of the contractors, Prevail Group International (PGI), led by Dr. Paul Tungwarara were at Muganwinwi High School in Bulawayo, where a business unit is being set up, drilling a borehole.
The company is not only supplying water but also creating employment for local people.
Dr. Tungwarara said the project was moving according to plan.
“Our target of 1,000 boreholes per month is achievable. We are also creating employment with more than 50 people having been employed in each province,” he said.
The project is in tandem with government efforts to ensure access to water in remote areas in support of horticulture and domestic uses.
The country received low rainfall due to the El Nino phenomenon. The boreholes will be of great importance for sanity and the transformation of livelihoods in the country.
