A popular music producer in the Kadoma gold mining town has said Zimbabwean artists from all genres should play an instrumental role in the struggle against COVID-19.

Founder and owner of Vigo Studio lnt.,Fanuel Kanyonganise (39),a.ka. Fankan, expressed confidence that immense contribution from the art industry would go a long way in the fight against the deadly pandemic.

“Artistes have a magical way of communicating with people. Their role is a day to day relief to the stressed communities and they provide the conducive atmosphere to those who may want to enjoy.

They (artistes) are also role models. This implies that what they do or say has an impact on the general populace. ln this dark and sombre phase of the deadly COVID-19 artistes should be seen to be playing their part,” said Fankan during a recent online interview.

A former drummer with the now-defunct Kwekwe band, Shirichena, Kanyonganise’s Vigo Studio lnt has become a household name as a music production circles in Kadoma.

Over the years he has worked with musicians from the mining town who have made it to stardom among these are Mostafa , Trice, Jah Flame, and award-winning hip-hop artiste Hastings Chirembwe (H-Files).

Apart from musicians from the town (Kadoma) Fankan has worked with Mzimba.

To date, COVID-19 has claimed over 100 000 lives across the globe. The continuing mortality rate has perturbed the world’s social order and is an indicator of the need to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
