Writes Bothwell Munetsi
The Catholic community is coming together to support one of its own beloved Chef, Webster Mahawa. After years of dedicating his life to nourishing the bodies of thousands of believers, Webster now requires urgent financial assistance to undergo critical heart surgery.
Diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in July 2021, Webster’s heart struggles to pump blood efficiently, with an alarming Ejection Fraction (EF) of 20%. Urgent medical attention, including heart surgery in India, is his only hope.
For more than 20 years, Webster has volunteered his culinary skills to the Rockwood Spiritual Centre, a Catholic spiritual hub that hosts numerous events, retreats, and conferences. His tireless efforts have ensured that countless youth congresses, seminars, and community gatherings have been filled with warmth, love, and delicious meals.
“Webster has been an integral part of our Rockwood and the Archdiocese of Harare youth ministry,” said Fr Maganga former Archdiocese of Harare Youth Director. “His unwavering commitment to serving others, coupled with his infectious joy, has touched the hearts of everyone who has walked through our doors.”
Despite his own health struggles, Webster has continued to serve with a humble heart, inspiring countless individuals with his selflessness. Now, as he faces a critical health crisis, the community is rallying around him to ensure he receives the medical attention he desperately needs.
The cost of Webster’s heart surgery and post-operative care is estimated at $25,000, and the family is appealing for financial support to cover these expenses. Any contribution, big or small, will bring Webster closer to receiving the life-saving treatment he requires.
