The rising academic giant, David Mascott Country School has once again stamped its authority as a pacesetter in the education field by offering unique learning facilities and services.
The imposing modern facility located in the pristine area of Norton exudes an aura of excellence. The Spiked Online Media crew caught up with Mr. Solomon Bonongwe, the Headmaster of David Mascott School who shared about the new developments and took the journalists on a tour of the facility.
Having been long overdue, the school now has access to the Internet for the purposes of research by children. Being the leader that it is, it is also offering an added advantage of computer studies in line with the ICT primary school syllabus.
David Mascott has introduced some swimming lessons. The children go to Mabelreign Swimming Bath.
“We have also started junior golf. We are the first primary school to engage in this sport in Norton. We do it at Norton Country Club. Our chess team was very successful at the zonal competitions. On the 1st of march 2019, we will be going to Chengeta Primary School in Chegutu for the district competitions,” Mr Bonongwe said.
The school quiz team is going to participate at the Heritage Quiz sponsored by the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe.
Mr. Bonongwe revealed that he went to the visual and performing arts workshop held at Hartley 1 Primary School in Chegutu in the company of Mr Founder Mandinde, the Sports Director and Mr. Andrew Matsinde the Grade 6 teacher on Tuesday.
This will benefit the school in the interpretation of the competence-based curriculum. There is going to be school-based staff development for the rest of the teachers.
David Mascott is also teaching foreign languages. At the moment, the school is teaching Germany from Grade 3 to Grade 7.
Germay is known as a leader in the automotive industry and those students willing to pursue engineering in that country will find it easy to communicate.
“We are in the process of looking for a Chinese teacher. This will enable our children to communicate when they go outside the country. Now that China is an important global economic player with deepening ties with Zimbabwe, some of the children may go to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in China.
“Following our registration with the ministry of primary and secondary education, we are now being included in all the activities of the ministry in the field of sports and curriculum development. We also look forward to increasing our enrolment since in 2018, our Grade 7 pass rate stood at 100 percent,” Mr. Bonongwe added.
