It’s World Baking Day today, May 17, when bakers, chefs and culinary enthusiasts will share delight in all the treats that baking yields across the world.
DStv will join in the fun by highlighting some of those treats with a selection of baking-themed programmes on the day of commemoration, part of its ongoing offering of food channels and programmes.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe publicity and public relations manager Liz Dziva is getting caught up in the fun.“Baking shows are just great and so mouth-wateringly entertaining, and I know many Zimbabwean viewers feel the same way, too,” she said.
“And viewers can even use the DStv Now app to stream their favourite baking shows into their kitchens so they can keep up with the professionals.”
The baking day action includes the Ultimate Cake Off, in which cake artists go head-to-head building over-the-top, larger-than-life cakes all in pursuit of a grand prize.
This will be at 10.30 am on Lifetime (channel 155). The Spring Baking Championship hosted by celebrity chef Bobby Deen is on Food Network (channel 175) at 10.40 am, focusing on how far eight bakers are willing to go to impress the judges, Nancy Fuller, Lorraine Pascal, and Duff Goldman, with their spring-themed creations, in an attempt to win $50 000.
Cake Boss Buddy Valastro teams up with Duff Goldman to create the most realistic looking dinosaur cake at the American Museum of Natural History, in Buddy vs Duff (5.05 pm on TLC, channel 135).
One of the world’s most popular baking competitions is The Great British Bake Off, following the journey of aspirants as they compete for the title of Britain’s best amateur baker on BBC Lifestyle (channel 174).
“It’s a great way to celebrate the world of baking and here’s hoping we will all be inspired by what we see,” said Ms Dziva.
