Working with girls with disabilities is the key focus of Florence Mudzingwa, whose work in this field is helping to create confidence and opportunities among many young women who might otherwise remain sidelined from mainstream life.

She founded the Hope Resurrect Trust several years ago to provide a platform for girls with disabilities to achieve self-confidence and self-esteem, leading to personal growth and national development. The author of the book, Love Life, the Art of Living Your Dreams, she is a Certified Life Coach specializing in personal development and emotional intelligence and holds a Bachelor of Science honours degree in counselling. In addition, she is a digital marketer and has substantial experience as a top-flight secretary.

“The book, Love Life, the Art of Living Your Dreams, is semi-autobiographical,” she said.

“I hope it is an inspirational narrative in which I use my life experiences to show how courage, commitment and determination can be used to motivate and inspire people in adverse circumstances, allowing them, in turn, to go beyond their limitations and translate their dreams into reality.”

Florence, the youngest of five children, describes her family as tightly knit and praises her mother, the cornerstone of the family.

“My family members are extraordinary human beings; who are extremely supportive, loving, caring and concerned. They are my pillars of strength in what I have set out to achieve,” she said.

Her understanding of how a supportive family can make a difference for people has created in her a belief that family-style support for girls with disabilities can add value to, and even transform, their lives.

Florence and her family are a part of the DStvTisuMaShark Tribe, with 20 years’ viewing experience to draw on. Favoured channels include SuperSport, news, films, lifestyle and documentary channels. Children’s programmes and music channels are also of great interest, as are makeover shows and cooking competitions.

“As DStv Sharks, we make great use of the MyDStv App, which allows us to make subscription payments from the comfort of our homes, as well as gives us the latest updates in sports and news,” she said.

“DStv has had the effect of bringing our family closer together, despite us being in different countries. We can simultaneously watch live football matches and share our views, just as if we are seated together, and we sometimes link and chat about news content we have all watched,” Florence said.
