Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa, the Chief Executive Officer of Zimbabwe’s trailblazing energy entity, Power Giants, has been nominated as one of 100 Africa’s Most Influential Persons, under the Business Executive’s innovative new awards scheme of the same title.

The awards scheme has been designed to identify and publicly recognize 100 people across Africa whose personal and professional conduct and accomplishments, combined with their respective positions of authority and consequent influence, have enabled them to exercise the most influence on the socioeconomic, political, and cultural fortunes and trajectory of Africa as an emergent regional political and socio-economic block; or on the sovereign nations that make up the continent; and/or those of delineated segments of society, geographical regions or communities within the country.

Baroness Paulette Kporo, the Chief Executive Officer of Business Executive, the organisers of the prestigious awards, in a letter dated May 11, 2024, wrote to Engineer Kachirekwa that the reason he made it to the list of Africa’s most prominent persons is due to the positive change he brings to society.

“For obvious reasons, our definition of influence, for the purpose of these awards is restricted to positive influence. Therefore, you have been selected for an award as one of the 100 Africa Most Influential Persons. All the award winners in the various delineated broad areas of activity, your good self-included, have been selected through a comprehensive selection process entailing nominations from the public, verification/authentication of nominations by our dedicated research consultants, and assessment of nominations by an expert panel of judges followed by the application of a scoring model, leading to the identification of winners in each delineated category.

“Please, find attached to this correspondence a detailed Concept Framework of the awards scheme which includes the rationale, eligibility and selection criteria, the selection process, the scope of activities considered for the awards, the profile of the organizing institution, and other relevant information.

“Let us be the first to congratulate you on your thoroughly deserved award which formally positions you as one of the most positively influential persons in Africa as a whole, and thus one of an elite group of people whose conduct and activities are key to positive political, economic social and cultural behavior in your country,” Baroness Kporo said.

The award is to be formally conferred on Engineer Kachirekwa at a five-star gala awards conferment ceremony to be held on the 30th of May 2024 at The Cresta Lodge-Harare, Sango Conference Hall, Harare, Zimbabwe, 6 pm where he will receive a plaque and citation.

The strictly-by-invitation event will be attended by awardees and their guests; top multilateral and bilateral institution chieftains, government functionaries from various jurisdictions across Africa, selected leaders in various aspects of Africa’s collective polity, community leaders and leaders of thought, identified social influencers, members of the diplomatic corps, and the international media.

Award winners will be exposed to immense positive publicity both locally and internationally. They would thus have a unique opportunity to network with these pan-African A-list attendees in a most convivial atmosphere.

This is a unique opportunity for Engineer Kachirekwa to network with fellow leading influencers from all around Africa as well as other leaders of political and economic governance, civil society leaders, and top-tier people across all aspects of political, economic, social and cultural life on the continent.

Engineer Kachirekwa said he was humbled by the award that has catapulted him to be among Africa’s top influencers.

“This award has humbled me. It has made me sit at the table with kings and giants. Among the nominees are eminent people like South Africa’s President, HE Cyril Ramaphosa; the President of Rwanda, HE Paul Kagame; and Didier Drogba, who are some of Africa’s luminaries. Being chosen among these people is awe-inspiring,” Engineer Kachirekwa said.

Last year, Engineer Kacirekwa was a recipient of the coveted prestigious accolades at the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards and the Professional Excellence Awards (2023) held in the capital, Harare.
He won the Top Five Innovators of The Year 2023 Award and the Leading Client Engagement Professional who personifies Impeccable Professional Standards at the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards and the Professional Excellence Awards 2023 respectively while the company’s Managing Director, Evelyn Tinashe Kachirekwa was endorsed as one of the Top 5 Business Women of the Year 2023 at the Entrepreneurs Network of Zimbabwe (ENZ)-organised awards ceremony.
