Harare – The European Union Delegation (EU) to Zimbabwe will join the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe for Culture Month through various cultural activities this month for the first time as they celebrate EU Day.

“The EU Delegation is delighted to join efforts with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in an exciting project: “Culture Month”. Throughout May, the NACZ and the EU will host several activities all across the 10 provinces of the country to celebrate the richness and power of cultural diversity,” a statement on their website said.

“From an Art Exhibition in Chitungwiza to a culinary exchange program in Matopos, or a story-telling day with schoolchildren, we will experience how culture and diversity unite us! ”

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe national launch is scheduled to take place in Binga with the official partnership between NACZ and EU expected to be officially announced this afternoon at Reps Theater.

The European Union has been accompanying Zimbabwe since its independence and is committed to a constructive engagement based on shared values and interests.

In this era of partnerships based on trust, the EU Delegation in Zimbabwe is working daily, joining efforts with Zimbabweans for the country to succeed in its vision 2030 for an upper middle-income economy.

In marking Europe Day in Harare, the EU and the EU Member States will be celebrating Europe Day at an event on Friday 12 May 2023 that will host government representatives, diplomatic corps, international organisations, and civil society, including implementing partners, the private sector, political stakeholders, the cultural sector, and media community where participants will be able to better know and understand the different EU and the EU Member States cultures and to experience the EU motto in action.

Every year on this date, the 450 million citizens of Europe celebrate the European  dream and the founding values under the common motto: “United in Diversity.”

The EU was formed 73 years ago, five years after the end of World War II, on 9 May 1950, after the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Schuman called for the unification of Europe to make war on the continent impossible and spread peace and prosperity globally.

Every year on this date, the 450 million citizens of Europe celebrate the European Union’s successes.

In Zimbabwe, the EU, through the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, has contributed millions of euros towards the country’s health, education, farming, and democracy space since 1980.
