HIV response: Zvimba District on course to meet targets

Nyabira – Zvimba District in Mashonaland West Province with a population of 26 614 people living with HIV has made major strides in HIV response programs.

Speaking during World Aids Day commemorations held in Nyabira recently, Zvimba District Development Coordinator, Desmond Anele Gumbochuma, said the district’s target of ensuring that 95% of adults living with HIV have access to treatment has been achieved.

“Faced with challenges such as drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence, and stigma in our responses to HIV, our district is happy that at least 96% of adults have access to treatment and are on ART making us achieving our treatment target,” he said.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Mary Mliswa, in a speech read on her behalf by Mashonaland West Province Permanent Secretary Josphat Jaji, said government will continue to avail the necessary support towards HIV response programming that ensures no place or person is left behind.

“Government, through the Ministry of Health and other partners, will ensure no place or person is left behind in the HIV response programming by availing the necessary resources,” Hon Mliswa said.
