Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Marian Chombo (MP), is expected to have an interactive meeting with persons with disabilities in Kadoma as a measure to hear the challenges affecting them.
The interactive meeting is scheduled to be held on the 5th of August 2024 at Jairos Jiri School for the Blind in Rimuka, Kadoma. The program is expected to start at 0800hrs.
In an interview, the Provincial Chairman for persons with disabilities for Mashonaland West, Mr. Moses Marufu, said his constituency is set to meet the Minister so that they amplify the perspectives and experiences of this often marginalised community so that it can actualise its aspiration in all sectors of the economy.
“This interface with our Honorable Minister comes at a critical time when People with Disabilities (PwDs) are facing severe socio-economic challenges, exacerbated by the El Nino devastation,” he said.
“This meeting is a groundbreaking opportunity for us to voice our concerns and advocate for change. Its success will serve as a model for other provinces to follow,” Mr Marufu added.
The interface meeting seeks to proffer a cross-cutting approach that guarantees the multi-dimensional tackling of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
The Second Republic is committed to safeguarding, preserving, and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities as well as diligently upholding inclusivity principles according to the object of leaving no one and no place behind.
According to Mr Marufu, they are expecting a diverse group of stakeholders, including persons with disabilities, their caregivers, community members, and peers from rural areas who face unique challenges.
Delegates will come from across the Province including Raffingora; Norton; Zvimba; Pickston; Turf; Damvuri; Chakari; Chegutu; and Kadoma urban.
The Chairman unreservedly thanked Cde Jimayi Muduvuri who finances most of persons with disabilities’ meetings and he said without his hand, most of their meetings and gatherings would not have been met.
