Inter-Parliamentary Union: Chief Charumbira reiterates PAP’s support for Palestine

His Excellency, Hon Senator Chief Fortune Charumbira, the President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) attending the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has reiterated the continental lawmaking body’s support for the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The President of PAP made the contribution during the meetings of SADC and Africa groups prior to the 146 Assembly of IPU.

H.E Honourable Chief Fortune Charumbira, President of PAP took part on Friday 10 March 2023 in the meetings of SADC and Africa’s groups held in Manama, Bahrain prior to the 146 Assembly of the interparliamentary Union( IPU) to be held from 11 to 15 march 2023.

The main topics discussed were:
1) report of the executive committee
2) emergency items to be included in the agenda of the Assembly
3) the DRC situation
4) Palestine.
5) 147 Assembly of IPU.

H.E. Charumbira made an intervention during the debate on Palestine through which he informed the participants that the heads of State and Government were unanimous during the last AU Summit held in February 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the support of the Palestinian cause.

Consequently, the Chairperson of the meeting concluded that there is no need to deepen the debate as our leaders have already shown their full support for Palestine.

H.E. Charumbira also expressed the availability of PAP to work together as one block for the good of African people. On the next 147 Assembly of IPU, the participants welcomed warmly the organisation of the event in Luanda, Angola.
