Mega water tanks sourced from funds under the constituency development fund (CDF) for Kadoma Central Constituency were taken delivery of to City of Kadoma (CoK) authorities and are awaiting official handover, this publication has established.
That handover was supposed to be done today but for coronavirus crisis that is postponed to a later date, according to CoK Mayor Alderman Action Nyamumondiwa in an interview in his Fit Square office.
The thirteen water tanks are understood to be stationed at the central stores complex housing fire brigade operations.
Kadoma central Constituency is represented in the House of National Assembly by Honourable Muchineripi Chinyanganya.
Hon. Chinyanganya paid for the 10 000-litre mega water tanks sometime mid-January to mitigate challenges faced by the city in the water delivery system and arrest the worsening health situation in the constituency.
The tanks are meant for 13 wards with each jurisdiction meant to receive one tank to be located at a strategic position for the benefit of all citizens in that respective ward.
Hon Chinyanganya confirmed that the mega tanks were finally delivered to the constituency.
“Yes, that’s true. The tanks are now in the constituency. They should be 11 after two were offered to the General Hospital. We consulted with councillors on priority areas for use from the CDF.
“After thoroughly consulting, we realized that water is a high priority issue hence the decision to settle for the water tanks,” Hon. Chinyanganya told a constituency update meeting in Ward 12, mid-January.
The tanks gobbled up ZWL$107 000.00 from the fund meant for constituency development programs, basing on information availed by the lawmaker.
Meanwhile, two of the water tanks were loaned out by CoK to Kadoma General Hospital (KGH) in the wake of the novel coronavirus.
A visit to the hospital this morning revealed that the hospital superintendent Dr. Kudaishe Masendeke requested the tanks to close the gap on controlling the spread of the deadly virus.
“In respect of the Covid 19 preparedness Kadoma General Hospital is kindly requesting for 2 large water tanks that will be situated at the hospital entrance and Covid 19 isolation camp to serve as handwashing sites.” reads a letter of request directed to City of Kadoma health director Daniel Chirundu and signed by KGH superintendent Masendeke dated March 3, 2020.
At the general hospital, the health services administrator was handy to avail data on the status quo. The administrator confirmed receiving the tanks and they had to buy the outlet connection taps for ZWL$384.00.
At the hospital, there are built-in mega water tanks that could not be moved to the intended entrance point and isolation camp provoking the request by the mega health institution.
Efforts to get confirmation from the city fathers were partly fruitful as this reporter was moved from one office to the other with no confirmation by the mayor, chamber secretary, and chief fire officer, who is at the stores’ station.
The news team was referred to Dr. Daniel Chirundu who was also said to be in a meeting across the city.
