Take Cover as Swords are Drawn and Bullets Fly on the M-Net Movies Epic Battle Pop-Up Channel
Another pop-up channel is being created on DStv, this time focusing on epic battles, real and fictional, as part of the M-Net Movies stable.
Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said M-Net Movies Epic Battles pop-up would be open to DStv Premium customers from Friday March 22 to Sunday April 14.
“This will be a period of 24 days of thrilling, shocking and heart-breaking cinema that will feature more than 70 films, showcasing some of the greatest war stories ever told,” she said.
The adrenaline starts pumping on the first weekend with costume epics such as Troy and Rise of an Empire, followed by films about the Vietnam War, in which tens of thousands of soldiers on all side never returned home. The war is depicted brilliantly in classics such as Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, and Full Metal Jacket.
The major battles of World War II, the most destructive conflict the world has seen to date, are featured in films such as Pearl Harbor, a re-living of the day that sparked America’s entry into the war, and Saving Private Ryan, a tale of selflessness and bravery of the first order.
Imaginary interstellar conflict is the theme of Independence Day and War of The Worlds, and the channel will turn back the clock for the great battles of days gone by in Braveheart, Kingdom of Heaven and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Alongside the stark reality of films inspired by real events, viewers will be able to indulge in more pure fantasy in Pirates of The Caribbean, Transformers and Lord of The Rings. Each day’s viewing will end around midnight.
“It’s a mix of real history and make-believe and all designed to drive the adrenaline and make action the key focus of this exciting new pop-up channel,” said Ms Dziva.
