Marian Chombo helps lonely man with disability

Raffingora – A lone twenty-six-year-old man a with disability surviving on the aid of community well-wishers reached out to Zvimba North Constituency legislator Marian Chombo for assistance.

Givemore Chandavengerwa who cannot walk since birth and crawls around stays alone after both parents passed away and survives on handouts from well-wishers in the community.

He also has a condition that results in him soiling himself.

Recently he was “fined” two goats by a local member of the police special constabulary unit for allegedly stealing a cellphone. Narrating Givemore’s ordeal, Zvimba District Ward 13 Councilor Cliff Machakaire said he learned that a local Zimbabwe Republic Police special constabulary unit member had fined Givemore two goats for allegedly picking up a lost phone.

“Givemore had lost his two goats after he was directed to pay two goats as fine for allegedly picking up a lost phone which he handed over to a friend. I ordered the guy to bring back the goats,” he narrated to Chombo

Chombo who was touring women’s poultry projects in the constituency she is bankrolling pledged a wheelchair for Givemore and donated adult diapers and cash to him.

The joyful Givemore said he was grateful that the local MP visited him and thanked her for the assistance she has been sending to him. He further requested shoes and a wheelchair from the MP.

Even though he cannot walk, Givemore does his laundry and sweeps his home as evidenced by the clean environment when the MP arrived unannounced at his home. His place of residence is sandwiched between other homes from where he occasionally gets food and water since he cannot fetch water himself.

“I will send you a wheelchair and some diapers as well and will be sending you groceries every month, ” Chombo said.
