Organiser of Miss tourism Zimbabwe, Mrs Sarah Mpofu Sibanda has announced that the bus ferrying Finalists of the 2019 Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Finals was involved in an accident on its way to Eden Lodge in Vumba last night. Nine Finalists sustained injuries and are currently under observation at Murambi Gardens Clinic in Mutare. Medical professionals attending to them have advised that they’re all in a stable condition.

The Finalists were scheduled  to spend the night in Vumba after the day’s activities. It was unfortunate that on the way to Vimba, the bus developed a mechanical fault before it veered off the road.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the driver for the professionalism and heroic efforts he displayed as he controlled the bus throughout the horrific ordeal. He saved the day and we wish him a speedy recovery as he is also admitted at the Clinic.

“While there have been various scenarios circulating on social media platforms, the Finalists are stable and in high spirits. Their families have been informed and we are grateful for their unconditional support.,” Mrs Mpofu said.

The girls who are admitted are Maria Makelve and Michelle Mupasi from the Midlands Province, Rutendo Tilda Mafuratidze from Manicaland Province, Rutendo Amanda Taruvinga and Grace Karimupfumbi of Masvingo Province, Monalisa Ellen Tafirenyika from Matebeleland North, Maureen Gondwe from Mashonaland Central Province, Wendy Maturi of Mashonaland Central Province and Pauline Marere from Mashonaland West.

The organiser said  the Finalists are naturally in shock because of the trauma experienced during the accident.

“The finalists are all stable and recuperating quite well. At present we await the Doctors to give a detailed report and assessment of the situation. The other 10 Finalists are fine and  are booked at a local hotel. In light of the above, the Finals which set were set for this Saturday have been postponed to a date and venue to be advised,” read the statement.
