MultiChoice Talent Factory offers master classes on true crime television production

Liz Dziva

Master classes focused on production of reality crime television shows are to be facilitated for students of the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academies by the thematic TV channel CBS Justice.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe said a partnership between the MultiChoice Group and AMC Networks International UK and ViacomCBS, had set up provision of four true-crime master classes for MTF students and for industry professionals across Africa, all undertaken through the MTF online portal.

“The true crime genre is popular across Africa and the master classes will cover aspects of creating content, hosted by acclaimed facilitators,” she said.

The four one-hour master classes which are being offered online began November 17   and  will continue on November 24 and Tuesdays December 1 and 8, at 11am each time, and will subsequently be made available on the MTF portal.

Facilitated by David Howard and Rik Hall of UK-based production company Monster Films, participants will gain first-hand insights across a range of topics, from developing and pitching ideas, to filming, working with talent, on-set best practices, approaches to post-production, sales and marketing.

Ms Dziva said a key focus would be on covering the depth and breadth of filmmaking, finding partners who were specialists in genre filmmaking and had in-depth knowledge of the nuances that come with producing different genres.

“True crime stories make for gripping entertainment and we are excited to see this partnership with CBS Justice and its consequent series of master classes for industry professionals across Africa,” she said.

These master classes are the latest in a diverse range of classes and workshops offered by the MTF Academy initiative and tie in with its philosophy of training industry professionals in the job telling of authentic African stories.”

CBS Justice is available to DStv Premium and Compact Plus customers on channel 170, focused on some of the world’s most fascinating crime cases, including expert-led productions such as New Scotland Yard Files, Donal MacIntyre’s Murder Files, Secrets of a Psychopath, Evidence of Evil, Cold Justice, Murder for My Man and Homicide’s Elite.
