Sungura musician Collen Timeo is going to headline a fundraising show at Kotwa High School in Mudzi this Friday.
In an interview with this publication, the musician affectionately known as Wairemera Boss who is a former student at the school said that preparations are at an advanced stage for the charity show.
“It’s a few days before our fundraising show at Kotwa High School. We are raring to go and the students can’t wait for this first thing to happen at their school grounds,” confirmed the 36-year-old artiste.
The artiste who is a beneficiary of the Ray Kaukonde Scholarship revealed that it was befitting for him to plough back to his community as he can relate to the difficulties students in his area go through.
“I am a former student of Kotwa High School from 2004 to 2005. I did my Advanced level studies at Kotwa Gvt High under Ray Kaukonde Scholarship. I did Management of Business (A), Geography (A), and Accounting (B) to produce the best results in the district in 2005.
“As pay back to the school, I am going to fight the bull by its horns by donating the proceeds of the show to the school for the procurement of textbooks that are in line with the new curriculum. Students will also benefit by practically learning Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) as well as Heritage studies,” Timeo said.
“My heart bleeds for these youngsters who often can’t afford stationery and textbooks. It’s something I can relate to,” he added.
The artiste who has held a number of charity shows including at Mapombo High School where he was also a student said he has plans to perform at most schools dotted around Mudzi District.
“I am going to perform at almost every school in Mudzi and channel the proceeds towards school development projects,” the affable musician alluded.
In 2020, Timeo who fronts the band H & C Sungura vibes released a song called Ngatishingirirei which was part of the Nash Tv catalogue on YouTube and the track received some positive feedback.
Apart from music, he is a Business Strategist and brand ambassador for Nelloc Marketing.
